Our Scholastic Book Fair is modified this year to accommodate everyone

10/5/2021 11:07 am

For all of you new to MPE: we hold an annual Scholastic Book Fair at MPE as a PTA fundraiser - during this week, the media center gets transformed into a bookstore. When students have their Media special, they can make wishlists or purchase books (the fair is usually manned by volunteer parents). A portion of the funds is donated back to MPE PTA. In a typical year, the book fair hosts a Storybook Night, with teachers reading books and arts and crafts, as well as Doughnuts With Grownups, free doughnuts for students and their parents before shopping the book fair.

After a completely virtual format last year, the in-person Scholastic Book Fair returns to MPE with some modifications. This year, we don't have our usual parent volunteers, we have virtual and in-person students to think about, and we can't hold our usual Storybook Night and Doughnuts With Grownups inside the school. To accommodate for all of this and to make our Book Fair exciting for the students, we are working to bring you our Bookaneer Book Fair.

Your child will still be able to purchase books in school. We won't have our usual parent volunteers to help during school hours so, while your child will be able to submit an order during their Media time, the order may be filled later on that day or the following morning.

Your child can shop independently with Scholastic's eWallet. We will still accept cash for orders but we recommend taking advantage of Scholastic's eWallet which can be loaded by you or other family members. Your child does not need to bring anything with them, we simply look up their name and classroom when processing their order. After the Fair, remaining eWallet funds are not returned to a credit card but instead, become a gift card balance and can be used online with Scholastic or used to fund an eWallet for a future Book Fair. (Be sure to sign in with the same email used to create the eWallet.) Go to our book fair website to create an eWallet.

Your room parent will send you an email about creating your teacher an eWallet for their book fair wishlist. Since we will not have boards displaying teacher wishlists, we have decided this year to have your room parent create an eWallet for your teacher to use at the book fair. Your room parent will share with you a link you can use if you would like to donate towards the purchase of classroom books.
