Open Volunteer Form

7/1/2021 9:22 am

As we hope to shift back toward regularly scheduled school events and activities at MPE, we know we need as much help as we can get from our MPE families. Some of you with children in higher grades may already know how a lot of these events/volunteer positions work. A lot of you may not have seen events such as Spring Carnival and Fall Outdoor Movie Night. Read up on these events on our website; information and further details will be released as the year progresses. We opened up our volunteer form - accessible through your PTA account - in the summer so you can sign up or ask questions about any of the positions or committees that are needed for all these events to happen.

At first glance, the summary of volunteer opportunities may seem like an exhaustive list so let's break a few of these down by time commitment.

one-time commitment

When we are planning Hospitality or fundraising events, we will send out Sign-up Genius lists via our Room Parents for you to sign up to work 30-minute shifts at the event. These events include Outdoor Movie Night (concession stand), Doughnuts with Grownups (doughnut table, coffee table, juice table), Spring Carnival (concessions + many other stands, set-up/clean-up) and more. You do not need to sign up for these through the Volunteer Form, you can sign up later on in the year.

ONce a month

We have a few roles that are needed for a small amount of time (20 minutes to a couple of hours) every month. Consider splitting any of these roles with a partner if your free time is very limited but you still want to help out.

Help us celebrate staff birthdays by coming in once a month and placing a card and snack in the staff mailboxes of those with a birthday that month. You will need to address the pre-purchased cards and verify allergies for the pre-purchased snacks. You can also be involved with the card and snack purchase.

Decorate the bulletin board outside the PTA office to advertise for various PTA events, programs or fundraising projects. Print out pre-made flyers to post and/or use your crafting abilities to make paper borders and decorations.

A larger monthly role is Spirit Night Coordinator: communicate with local eateries to book one Spirit Night a Month (take out or dine in with portion of proceeds returning to the PTA); coordinate a flyer (get it directly from the restaurant; create one; or work with PTA Communications to create one); follow up with restaurant after the Spirit Night to collect the check for the PTA.

planning committees

Join a planning committee for one of our events. Discuss and plan things as a group under the lead coordinator via email or in person. Certain committees may only meet once, others may need more involvement so it is difficult to say how much time each position takes. The workload can be split amongst members of the committee and your share is dependent on how much you want to give - you can discuss this with the event's main coordinator. For example, you may want to be in charge of booking the food trucks for movie night (minutes to 1-2 hours total).  Or you would like to help brainstorm ideas for this year's Spring Carnival. Maybe you want to help run one of the 5 days of Teacher Appreciation Week (1-2 hours).  Planning committees are involved in the following events/projects:

  • campus beautification
  • Book Fair/Doughnuts with Grownups/possible Storybook Night
  • Fall Outdoor Movie Night
  • Spring Carnival

Coordinator roles

We missed out on programs last year because of the transition to virtual school but also because we didn't have coordinators to run certain programs such as Reflections and Edukits. Although being a coordinator requires a bigger time commitment, we hope to have parent volunteers take on these roles so we can re-institute the programs MPE students participate in during a regular school year. Coordinator roles differ per program; you can go here for more details.

We need coordinators for:

  • Reflections - a National PTA arts competition
  • Maniacs Marathon
  • Walk-to-school Day
  • Operation Gratitude (Halloween candy)
  • School Supplies/Edukits

Share the coordinator role. We need co-coordinators for:

  • Odyssey of the Mind - our current coordinator will work with you and train you to take over in the 2022-2023 year
  • Cultural Arts Showcases - our current coordinator will work with you and train you to take over in the 2022-2023 year
  • Nourishing Noggins

So take a look at our Volunteer Opportunities; email the responsible party for more questions or simply email communications@millsparkpta.com if you don't know where to start. If you know where you want to get involved, sign up through the volunteer form in your PTA account. We appreciate your time and help!
