SUBJECT: 2021-2022 MPE Yearbook - All you need to know

This newsletter is meant as a source of information for all who are curious about or wish to purchase the 2021-2022 MPE yearbook. If you cannot find the answer to your question here, please email yearbooks@millsparkpta.com.

Did you know...?

- The MPE 2020-2021 yearbook won a Gallery of Excellence award.

- We are working with a new yearbook company this year and they have offered a voucher for a free photobook for each yearbook purchased. You will receive this voucher with your yearbook in June as long as you purchase your yearbook before March 31st.

- You can buy copies of old yearbooks for $5 through the spirit wear form in your PTA account. There is a limited amount of copies - only the yearbooks listed in the form are available.

What is a yearbook and what goes in it?

The yearbook is a 110+ page hardcover book to document the 2021-2022 school year. It is created through the work of our volunteer yearbook committee in coordination with MPE staff. Here are some of the different sections in our yearbook.

Student Portraits by Classroom

The yearbook will include student portraits from each of our 42 classrooms from Pre-K to 5th grade including ECS and VA.

Student Clubs and Competitions

We will include spreads featuring the following and more:

Reflections winners' artwork, Odyssey of the Mind teams, First in Fitness team, spelling bee

Student Artwork and Quotes in Response to the Yearbook Question

MPE, what do you want to be?

Your child may have answered this question via our Google Form or by sending us a drawing they made filling in the blank "Be ____". If they still have not done so, we are accepting submissions until January 31st. Click here for details.

5th Grade Legacy Ads

A legacy ad for your 5th grader is space purchased in the MPE yearbook in which you can publish an "ad" with a photo (or photos) of your 5th grader and a message for them as they graduate from MPE.

Candid Photos, Games and More

The yearbook is completed with candid photos from school activities, specials and events; a timeline with major events from the year; a profile page; and puzzles. Of course, there will be space for the students to sign each others' yearbooks before the summer break.

Legacy Ad Information for 5th Graders

The deadline to purchase a legacy ad is January 31st. The cost of the legacy ad is in addition to the yearbook. The funds raised from the legacy ad sale go to PTA projects including the cost of the 5th grade graduation ceremony. You can choose to make the ad yourself (please adhere to the guidelines below) or to have the yearbook committee make the ad for you.

- A "large" ad or 1/4-page ad costs $65 and is 3 3/4 in. x 4 7/8 in.

- A "small" ad or 1/8-page ad costs $35 and is 3 3/4 in. x 2 3/8 in.

To purchase a legacy ad for your 5th grader:

1. Complete the form and payment via your PTA account by January 31st. **Make sure you have also purchased a yearbook.**

2. Pick an option below.

Option #1 - the yearbook committee is making your ad:

- Fill out this Google Form by January 31st. The form will ask for your message and for some details that will help us create the ad (eg. your child's favorite color).

- Please email your photo(s) to yearbooks@millsparkpta.com by January 31st with the subject "Legacy ad for [student name]".

Message guidelines: We recommend that your message be roughly 50 words for 1/4-page ad and 30 words for a 1/8-page ad. This is not a strict rule and we will print whatever you send us but please be warned that the longer your message, the smaller the font will be. Remember to verify your spelling and punctuation as the ad will be published with your exact wording. Eg. of a message: Dear Sofia, we are so proud of you and can't wait to see what you will accomplish in middle school. Love, Mom, Dad and Joshua

Photo Guidelines: We recommend 2 photos for the 1/4-page ad and 1 photo for the 1/8-page ad. Once again, we will still use whatever you send us - we have made 1/4-page ads with 5 pictures before - but the more pictures you send, the smaller they will be in the ad. Ideas: some ads have featured a picture of the child in kindergarten then in 5th grade; others have shown baby pictures; others show a favorite hobby.

Option #2 - you are making your own ad:

- Fill out this Google Form by January 31st to let us know you will be making your own ad.

- Please email your ad to yearbooks@millsparkpta.com by February 11th. Please follow the ad guidelines below.

Ad Guidelines:

The ad must be in one of the following formats: .png, .jpeg, .tiff. The dimensions of the ad are:

- 3 3/4 in. x 4 7/8 in. for the 1/4-page ad

- 3 3/4 in. x 2 3/8 in. for the 1/8-page ad

To ensure that your ad will not be pixelated, the file size should not be smaller than 200 kb. Most of our ads are about 1-2 MB. A great, free website to use is canva.com.

Helpful tips when ordering your yearbook/Troubleshooting:

- You must have an account to place the order. You can create a free one here.

- If you do not see the yearbook order form under My Forms/Paperwork, please update the form entitled Family Information with your student's grade and teacher.

- The Legacy Ad form will only appear in your account if you have marked your student as a 5th grader.

- Please verify that your student's information (teacher/grade) is accurate or they will not receive their yearbook during delivery.

- When ordering one yearbook to share amongst siblings, the yearbook will be delivered to the child under whose name the order was placed.

- You will receive an email receipt after your order. To verify your order, you can also click on "previous orders" on the top right of the website page.
