Health & Wellness Month Jan 29th-Feb 24th

Our Health & Wellness month starts January 29th! We have lots of fun in store for you. 

1 - Challenge your family to complete the weekly bingo sheet - more than once if you can!. You should have received the Nutrition bingo sheet as well as the Parent bingo sheet. Every bingo sheet (for student or parent) will go towards the classroom tally. The classroom that submits the most completed sheets by the end of the H&W month will win a 45-minute class party at Balance Martial Arts. 

2 - Help your child create a healthy resolution for the month. Fill out the sheet and bring it to the Health & Wellness Fair for a prize.

3 - Check out our extra nutrition resources online. We will have extra info and links for you to follow every week, corresponding to the week's themes.

4 - Save the date for our very first Health & Wellness Fair on Sat. Feb. 24th from 2-5pm. We have a jam-packed schedule including yoga and Zumba for the family, a National PTA-sponsored talk about internet safety and a guest speaker, Dr. Kitty O' Hare, from Duke Primary Care Pediatrics who will discuss Emotional Wellness in children. To add to the fun, we have several local businesses setting up interactive and educational booths promoting healthy bodies, healthy minds and healthy planet. We hope to see you there!

Don't forget to pre-order your 2023-24 yearbook! The price is going up to $38 on Feb. 9th. Pre-orders are done through your PTA account under My Forms. 

Our yearbook is a 112-page hardcover photobook that documents the academic year. Each student has their Strawbridge portrait placed in the yearbook on their class page. We also include portraits of the staff, pictures of school clubs and competitions (Odyssey of the Mind, Reflections, spelling bee, Battle of the Books, etc.), candid shots of school events (movie night, spirit nights, etc.) and of classroom events by grade.

Maniacs Marathon registration starts Feb. 12

We are so excited to bring back the Mills Park Maniacs Program again this year! This is a fun way for your family to get moving and having some fun! Your child will walk, run, skip, or hop 25.1 miles (no bikes). For every completed mile, you will put a bead on your necklace. There will be a special bead for the 13 mile mark and the 26.1 mile mark. This will be a virtual race except for the last mile. The virtual race will end on Thursday, April 11^th. We will have the children finish the last 1.1 mile at school on Friday, April 12^th at 10:15am. Students and staff will be there to cheer the runners on as they finish their last 1.1 mile. There will be more details about this event as we get closer to the date. You will start tracking your miles once you register.

Register for free through your PTA account starting Feb. 12th with an option to purchase a Mills Park Maniacs t-shirt ($12 per shirt; PTA members get a $4 discount). There are options for you to buy a shirt for your child and other family members. Registration includes each child’s beads. You can pay on-line through the PTA website. Registration is Feb. 12-16^th. Once registration has closed, beads and necklaces will be sent home. The Maniac t-shirts will be delivered in April for the children to wear them at school on April 12^th when they do their last mile.

This is going to be a fun, family event and we cannot wait to have all of our Panthers participate! Lace up those shoes, grab some water, and get ready to move!

Advocacy

The PTA is an advocacy organization.  This means speaking up for children, but where do we start?

The first step to advocacy is educating ourselves.  Susan Book was our guest speaker at Thursday's meeting.  She taught us where school funding comes from and who the decision makers are.  It was such important information, I'm going to share it with you.

Spirit Night: Pizza Twist, Morrisville

PIZZA TWIST,Chicago's Pizza with a Twist, located in Morrisville is hosting a Mills Park Elementary SPIRIT NIGHT on Tuesday, January 23rd, from 4pm-9pm. It is located at 3735 Davis Dr Suite 121, Morrisville, NC 27560

All you have to do is identify that you are there supporting Mills Park Elementary.

Welcome back!  We can't wait to kick off this new year.  Do you have any resolutions for 2024?  Mine are to meet new people, bring new programs to our school and to have even more fun than last year (if that's even possible.)
