Room Parents Needed! Info Meeting Sept 26 (cafeteria)

9/9/2024 5:32 am

Room Parents Wanted

It's the beginning of the year so you have probably heard your teacher asking for room parents. This is a great way to be involved in your child's classroom (meet classmates and fellow parents) and to help out your teacher and the PTA/MPE community. Some classrooms are still in need of room parents, so if you can help out please contact your child's teacher to ask!

What is a Room Parent?
A Room Parent is an amazing and appreciated parent volunteer who supports the teacher and is a communication medium between the PTA and parents of fellow classmates. There are optimally 2-3 room parents per classroom.

What does a Room Parent do?
This varies from grade to grade and from classroom to classroom. Tasks typically involve organizing:
  • sign-ups for the classroom (eg. Mystery Reader)
  • Learning Experiences (i.e. classroom parties with crafts and/or games and a snack)
  • collections for optional classroom gifts (teacher birthday, holiday, and/or end-of-year)
For the PTA, tasks include:
  • forwarding emails in a timely fashion
  • working with a team of room parents to build a raffle basket for carnival (approximately Feb/March)
  • coordinating your classroom parents to join in Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week activities (approximately Feb.)
  • helping your teacher submit yearbook photos
Why is a Room Parent important?
- All of our teachers could always use a bit of extra support even if it's something as simple as making a sign-up or making photocopies.
- The PTA can only get the word out through Panther Press subscribers and paper fliers. Forwarding timely emails (eg. yearbook purchase instructions and deadline, book fair e-wallet instructions) can really help communicate important dates and events to the whole MPE community.

If you would like to volunteer as a room parent, please let your teacher know then come to our Room Parent Training Session on Thursday, Sept. 26th at 9AM in the cafeteria. If you are a veteran Room Parent, feel free to come to the session to meet fellow room parents and have some snacks. Questions? Please email president@millsparkpta.com
