Looking for a Cultural Arts Representative

6/22/2022 11:02 am

Cultural Arts CoordinatorMPE students experience 3 to 5 Cultural Arts shows in a typical year. Artists in the past have included musical groups (Transit Vocal Band, From Bach to DooWop), theatre performances (The Story Ship, Pete the Cat), and even Dave the Birdman and his amazing trained parrots. This program was put on hold during the pandemic and during the 2021-2022 school year, we had a subscription to an on-demand virtual service through Bright Star Theater.

The MPE Cultural Arts Representative for the last 10 years, Eric Hall, is no longer an MPE parent. We are looking for someone to be our new Cultural Arts Representative so that our students can once again enjoy live performances during the 2022-2023 school year. (At this point in time, we do not have a parent volunteer and therefore have no planned cultural arts performances for our students during the coming year.)

It’s a fun role and the busiest time is the beginning of the school year (August to early September).  The prep work begins in August with the annual training sessions and the performer showcase.  Please click on "Read more" for more details and important dates. If you are interested in this role, we would truly appreciate your help. Please email Natalie at vicepresident@millsparkpta.com

We need a Nourishing Noggins chair

6/15/2022 9:01 am

Are you interested in helping families at Mills Park Elementary School with food security?  Then this this position may be for you. The school counselors are looking for 1 to 2 parents to chair Nourishing Noggins, a 501(c) 3 charitable organization that provided weekly food to select families during the school year and two additional times for larger donations for winter and summer breaks. You would be in charge of the keeping the website updated, receiving and distrusting the organization's funds, organizing weekly food collection/distributions and communicating with the school counselors to determine yearly needs. (The biggest commitment is making sure the school has between 20-30 bags of wood weekly for distribution. These are provided by individuals or groups that sign up ahead of time.) You can commit for a year, or longer depending on your interest.  If you are interested, please contact Nancy Stavrakakis at nstavrakakis@wcpss.net for more information.
